Jonathan Daley
My name is Jonathan Daley and I have taken part in the Sefton Triathlon Disabilities section for the last 2 years. I am 16 yrs old and go to Range High School in Formby, Merseyside. Taking part right from the start and in fact my school did the first trials for the disabled section on a cold day in December. My sister takes part in the main event, so for me it's a family sporting day. It's great fun and the day is terrific. I have won the handcycle section twice now and am going for my 3rd on June 30th. I have met all sorts of people like Sir Steve Redgrave and helped interview him on a presentation day. The most exciting day was when I went to a presentation and had my photo taken with Jamie Carragher from Liverpool FC my favourite club. Why don't you come and join us for the next event, the biggest ever and meet some famous people, get involved in a great event and compete in our own disability triathlon. The organisors have promised us more sporting people will take part so I can't wait to see them all.

Christopher Speariett
My name is Christopher Speariett and I attend Range High School Formby. On Saturday the 1 st of July 2006 I took part in the Sefton Triathalon in a three person Disabled team. The triathalon consists of three legs a swim, a wheelchair push and a bicycle ride. My role was the wheelchair push which was along the promenade of Crosbybeach. It was particularly difficult due to the sand which had blown onto the Promenade making it difficult to move the wheelchair wheels. I wore gloves to protect My hands and to my joy I won 1 st place. I was also amazed to be the competitor Who collected the largest amount of sponsorship money over £300 and won a trip To the England Football team’s training camp to meet the England team. It was a day I will never forget! I am looking forward to taking part in the 2007 Sefton Triathalon. It is an amazing day which is enjoyed by people of all abilities raising much needed money for very worthy charities.

The 2006 Sefton Triathlon was my first sporting competitive event. It was made even more special because it was the first time that I had been chosen to represent my school. It was a great experience and lots of fun. I had to do lots of training for the swim. I came third in the event and received a nice medal. My mum said that she was proud of me and that I was like a fish in the water. I was also very proud of myself because I was able to represent the school and win a medal for them.

The disabled triathlon is a race that allows those of us who are disabled to come together for a day that’s full of sports, fun and a little bit of competition; at the same time, encouraging others to see the advantage of taking part in an event. The triathlon improves a source of well being, supporting each other and cheering each other on to do their personal best. At the same time proves to others that we don’t let our disabilities push us aside and we’re still up for a bit of FUN! Then at the end of the day all those that took part, come together to collect a certificate, medal and a prize; just to say well done for taking part and doing your very best, no one can ask much more.
Doing the triathlon means a day packed with fun and adventure then afterwards you feel so proud of yourself for doing your part. The triathlon includes three main parts one for each person in a team, they are:

  • Swimming
  • Hand cycle
  • Wheelchair race

So, if your disabled and you think this sounds like fun and you want to have a go then feel free and we hope to see you there.
